Moving Minds Immersive Conference

Do you work with, or make decisions for young people? Scottish Ballet is hosting a three-day mental health and wellbeing conference with a difference. Leave your suits at home and prepare to immerse yourself in dance programs that are having a big impact on young people’s lives. Moving Minds, an exploration of young people's mental health and wellbeing through dance, will take place on 4–6 May 2022. The conference will comprise a blend of in-person and online events. Day 1 (Wednesday) & Day 2 (Thursday) will be hosted at Scottish Ballet in-person, whilst Day 3 (Friday) offers a digital program available to a worldwide audience of health and social care, education, and arts sector professionals. Economic Impact of Health for Dance Practices

The IADMS Dance for Health Committee will be joined by international researchers and teaching artists leading the sector in the integration of arts and dance into health care and in working with analysis tools to quantify the economic impact of arts for health practices, specifically dance for health.

This event is free but requires registration to attend. IADMS members will have access to the recording of the webinar one week after the event.

Dance Medicine Education Initiative Foundational Course: Module IV - Upper Quadrant: Thorax, Cervical Spine & Shoulder Girdle

John Hopkins Hospital

Module IV is the final module of the Dance Medicine Education Initiative Foundational Course and is focused on the evaluation and treatment of the Thorax, Cervical Spine, and Shoulder Girdle. Building upon the prior three Modules, course participants will have the opportunity to attend a course that is focused both on issues of mobility, stability, and control of the Upper Quadrant and how movement and control are linked to the lower half of the body. An analysis of rib motion and breathing mechanics is also included with a unique opportunity to work with the Parasetter ™ a proprioceptive tool that can increase the dancer’s awareness of breathing and movement strategies. This course is primarily focused on practical hands-on instruction and practice and will include the opportunity to work with a dancer volunteer. For more information, please visit

Dance Science for Ballet Educators

The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences in Stockholm is happy to announce two new courses specifically aimed at high-level ballet educators, starting in August 2022: (I)Psychology for ballet educators and (II) Anatomy & physiology for ballet educators. These courses are designed for teachers, professional dancers about to become teachers, and other ballet educators such as choreographers, ballet mistresses/masters, managers, and artistic directors. We will focus on high-level educators (having a formal education in classical ballet at the upper secondary school level and 5+ years of professional experience in classical ballet) to ensure a group that is sure to benefit greatly also from knowledge exchange with each other.

Each course is 7.5 ECTS credits. They will be delivered mostly via distance learning (online). However, 2.5 days on campus for each course ensure all-important practical learning and networking. Learn more here

The Dancing Hip
A Symposium with Sue Mayes

Dance Science Denmark welcomes Sue Mayes, PhD, Principal physical therapist and Medical team manager at the Australian Ballet, to our yearly symposium on "The Dancing Hip". The location will be close to Copenhagen at Hvidovre Hospital on Sunday 28th of August from 9:00-17:30. The symposium is relevant for all interested in dance medicine and science; dancers, dance and movement teachers, medical professionals, and more.

Participants will: be provided with an in-depth update on the current research on hip injury in dance; learn and practice a hip assessment, including dance-specific evaluation; learn and practice manual therapy techniques, including soft-tissue and joint mobilization, and taping for the hip; participate in evidence-based exercise programs for the hip, with specific reference to dance; and discuss criteria for a safe and optimal return to dance.
