In this blog post we introduce the first of six invited presentations for our upcoming annual conference in October. 

We are pleased to introduce Christina Soriano BA, MFA, Daisy Bremmer MA, Clare Guss-West, BHum MA and Jo-Anne La Flèche MA who will be presenting: ‘Mindfulness and Attentional Focus as Diagnostic and Performance Enhancement Tools’. This is presented in collaboration between the IADMS Dance for Health and Medical Committees as part of our Specialist Interest Groups programming.

Developing a Dance for Health Project: Considerations

It has been exciting to see the growth in the number of teaching-artists delivering dance in participatory settings to promote health and wellbeing among different populations. Alongside this, attempts are being made to capture data from their projects to build evidence of the value of dance as an activity that improves health and wellbeing. As a way of supporting the potential for collaboration between teaching-artists and researchers, the IADMS Dance for Health Committee created a set of guiding questions to help those who are planning dance for health projects in the form of an infographic, available in both English and French. 

2021 Dance Educator Award - Special Awards Announcement

Each year the Dance Educators Committee opens nominations for the Dance Educator Award, with the winner being announced at the annual IADMS conference. As a committee we are consistently overwhelmed and impressed by the expertise, experience and wealth of knowledge and passion from those nominated and their commitment to the continued education of dancers at all levels across the world. This provides unique challenges in selecting just one deserving winner of this annual award, particularly with nominations for those who have made significant impact on educational and pedagogic practices, research and textbooks as well as pioneering work in the field of dance medicine and science.

As such, we are pleased to announce two further awards, which recognize a long-term commitment to the development of dance medicine and science work. Lifetime Achievement Award: Karen Clippinger, and Pioneer Dance Educator Award: David Leventhal. Read more about the recipients here.
